MONTICELLO — Students in Monticello High School’s (MHS) Academy of Finance (AOF) had the opportunity to hone their interview skills, courtesy of one of the Hudson Valley’s newest neighbors – Legoland New York. On Sept. 26, Marcela Folkl, HR Business Partner at Legoland New York, visited MHS to lead a presentation for AOF students.
During the presentation, students learned more about Legoland’s history, as well as the corporate values and mission that are the driving force behind the company. They also got an overview of the breadth of job and internship opportunities – from retail to security to entertainment to corporate – that will become available as the park’s opening date draws near. Folkl then discussed some of the benefits Legoland offers to its employees as well as the characteristics that the organization seeks in its potential job candidates.
As a follow up to the presentation, Folkl, or one of her colleagues, plan to return to the AOF to help students develop customer service skills, through role playing various customer scenarios.
Monticello’s AOF is a member program of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), which was founded in New York City by a partnership of schools and the financial services industry. There are over 700 NAF Academies in the United States. The AOF works with local businesses and both education and government leaders to design and offer financial education opportunities for Monticello High School students through job shadowing, guest speakers, field experiences, senior year mentoring, and a summer internship program.
